Ricardo López baritone

Considered one of the most promising Mexican young singers, Ricardo López won the 1st Price in the XXVI edition of the Carlo Morelli National Singing Competition in 2008 and 3rd place in Iberoamerican Song Contest in 1012, and 1st place of the International Lyrical Singing Competition Trujillo, Perú in 2014. He has participated with the National Opera Company of Bellas Artes in Mexico City in productions as Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci like Silvio, Mascagnni’s Cavalleria Rusticana like Alfio, Verdi’s Il Trovatore like Di Luna Count and Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the tittle rol. Mr. López’s career operatic highlights include Verdi’s Rigoletto in the tittle rol with Haldenstein SchlossOper in Chur Switzerland, Verdi’s Macbeth in the tittle too with Augsburg Theater in Augsburg Germany, Gounod’s Faust as Valentin with national Operatic Theater in Rijeka Croatia, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly as Sharpless with Oper Köln in Cologne Germany, and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor as Enrico Aston with Solís Theater in Montevideo Urugay. A distinguished concert performer, Mr López has performed the bajo solos in Beethoven’s 9th Synphony, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Verdi’s Requiem, Fouré’s Requiem, Brahms’s Requiem, Händel’s The Messiah, Schumann’s Liebeslieder.

Mr. López has performered with great conductors like Enrique Patrón de Rueda, Kamal Kahn, Marco Balderi, Marco Zambelli, Nikza Bareza, Alun Francis, Moshe Atzmon, Yoav Talmi, Sebastian Tewinkel, Nada Matosevic, Linus Lerner and Plácido Domingo and has sung in very important halls like Tune Halle in zürich Switzerland, Konzertkirche in Neubrandenburg Germany, Nezahualcoyotl hall in Mexico City, Bellas Artes Palace in Mexico City, Solís Theater in Montevideo Uruguay, among others. This year Mr. López won 1st price of the 1st International Vocal Competition Linus Lerner.

His repertoire includes Rodrigo in Verdi’s Don Carlo, Riccardo Forth in Bellini’s I Puritanni, Marcello in Puccini’s La Boheme, Almaviva Count in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Figaro in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia, Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata. This year Mr. López will do his North American debut in a concert for the festivities of Mexican Independence Day with Symphony Orchestra of Southern Arizona in Tucson EU. and his debut in Sapanish ans zarzuela Festival in London UK. Ricardo López perfects his vocal technic with the renowned mezzosopran Prof. Dunja Vejzovic.

Gavin Roberts piano

Gavin Roberts enjoys a varied career as a piano accompanist. He has partnered singers in recital at Wigmore Hall, the Barbican Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, and is Artistic Director of the recital series SONG in the CITY. Engagements have include appearances at The Ludlow Weekend of English Song, The Cheltenham Festival, The Ryedale Festival (as a duo partner to the late clarinettist Alan Hacker), Brahms’ Liebesliederwaltzer as a duet partner to Graham Johnson, The Young Songmakers’ Almanac, The and A Soldier and a Maker directed by Iain Burnside – a play about the life of Ivor Gurney staged in the Barbican Pit Theatre. Alongside soprano Lucy Hall, he was the winner of the 2012 Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform.

He has played for The BBC Singers, The Joyful Company of Singers, The Hanover Band, Orpheus Britannicus, Tiffin Boys’ Choir and The Guildford Chamber Choir, and as a repetiteur for Sir Roger Norrington and the late Richard Hickox. Gavin has appeared regularly on BBC Radio broadcasts as a soloist and accompanist, often giving premiere performances of new works. He has played on numerous recordings for the BBC, ASV, Guild and Priory Records. His most recent project is a recording of Gurney songs with baritone Philip Lancaster.

Gavin studied Piano with Andrew West and Eugene Asti at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he is now a Staff Accompanist and a Tutor of Academic Studies. He has also received tuition from Graham Johnson, Sarah Walker, Iain Burnside, Julius Drake, Malcolm Martineau and Martin Katz. He previously read Music at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he also held the organ scholarship. Following this, Gavin gained a Master’s degree from King’s College London.
